5 Outstanding Types of Dog Food

Saturday, February 28th, 2009
Jeff Nenadic asked:

A couple of years back, it was very simple to feed your dog. But today it is quite difficult considering the nutrition they require.? There were days when my dad?s dog used to eat what was cooked for everybody at home, even the apple cobbler.? Apart from eating the leftover food lying on the table, he even used to loving having the mercenary dog food. Until his mid teenage he lived a jolly good life, without getting any kind of disease.

Even getting the dog food from pet stores was easy in the earlier days.? As there were not many brands of pet food to select from and moreover, the ingredients would be the same only with a different pack, taste and color.

But in today?s modern world, you have a wide range of varieties to select from.? Given below is a list of the popular pet food that is available in the market for your dogs:

Vegetarian

If you are a vegetarian and would like your dog also to be one, then you just don?t have to worry, as there is a lot of vegetarian dog food available at the pet stores. These vegetarian foods also contain all the necessary nutrients that a dog requires. This food is the best for dogs that have an aversion towards meat.

Green dog food

In the earlier days the dogs and wolves just ate raw food to sustain, and they were very healthy. Most of the owners preferred to give raw dog food. You cannot prove this belief wrong as there any hard no core scientific facts. But, there are a lot of chances that raw dog food will guide you towards dangerous bacteria like the E.coli and the Salmonella.

Therapeutic food

In the recent past, the therapeutic food is becoming very popular. This type of food is not easily available in the market, but you will have to buy them from your veterinarian, as this food is most of the time prescribed to dogs with health problems like allergies, or sometimes given to dogs that have undergone surgeries.

Natural dog food

Most of the dog foods which are made today have a certain percentage of bad chemicals and pesticides in them.? So to make sure, you do not give your dog this kind of dangerous food, it is better you give them the organic dog food. However, before you buy the dog food, just don?t go by the name Organic but carefully read the ingredients.

Dog food without preservatives

Actually several commercial dog foods contain conservatives in them like the ethoxyqion, BHA and BHT which are present as artificial chemicals. The main purpose of adding these chemicals to the food is to keep the food away from getting spoilt and to retain its taste and flavor. There are foods for dogs which have natural conservatives in them like the ascorbic acid which is nothing but vitamin C and the tocopherols in other words Vitamin E.

So while you buy your dog food the next time, ensure you are getting the one which has a natural conservative. You can find this out very easily by reading the ingredients given on the food.

The last but the most important point is the dog food you buy should be properly sealed and stored in a cool and clean place so that the food remains fresh and nutritional.?

Why Natural Dog Food? - Does Your Dog Suffer From Soft Stools? Watch Its Diet

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009
Jerry Yap asked:

Commercially prepared dog food is intended to be the sole calorie source for the intended pet. Therefore it contains all of the nutrients in the right proportions for your dog. Over-supplementing your dog’s diet, particularly with concentrated nutrients can cause an imbalance of important nutrients like calcium, zinc, vitamin A, fat or protein.

Some dogs suffer soft stools because of the variety of different foodstuffs that you are offering to him. Fruits and vegetables, especially when they are uncooked, can cause changes in gastrointestinal microflora and intestinal osmolarity.

Dogs are usually not picky eaters and most are happy to eat kibble everyday. However, many people feel the need to feed human food to their dogs. It is generally recommended to keep treats and “people food” to 10% or less of the diet. In most cases, a dog will have a normal stool quality of “people food” is kept to this level or less of this diet.

Although homemade natural dog food is the best as you can be sure it is free from preservative or contaminants so prevalent in commercial dog food as reported in recent news, some dogs may not adapt too well especially if you feed it human food. Like human, some dog will have more sensitive stomachs than others and do not adjust well to variety in their diet. In fact, it takes 12 weeks for the metabolic pathways to be forged in the dog?s body so most vet recommend that you do not switch dog food often.

A final recommendation would be to pick a few foods that you know do not upset your dog?s stomach and use them sparingly as treats for your dog. It is best to follow expert?s advice on dog food recipes if you are preparing homemade dog food.

Gordon Chase asked:

Holistic dog foods are made from natural human grade ingredients that do not contain any byproducts or fillers. It is easily digested and does cause as many allergies as other brands of dog food. It can give your dog a better quality of life with the right nutrition, vitamins and minerals. Holistic dog food was among those that were not affected by the recent dog food recall.

What Kind of Nutrition Do Dogs Need?

Dogs need animal protein for proper growth and health. A combination of chicken, meat and fish that makes a healthy holistic dog food that dogs love to eat. Dogs, like people, need vitamins and minerals as well.? They often experience allergies and poor, dull coats when fed commercial canned dog food. However, many of these problems disappear when dogs start on a holistic dog food diet. Dogs get good nutrition with a diet that is closest to their natural diet.?

Natural

Natural meat ingredients offer a high-quality source of protein that dogs need. The meat by-products in most commercial brands don’t cut it. Natural and holistic dog food companies pledge to use high quality ingredients without fillers and by-products.? Holistic Dog Food is formulated to provide a balanced diet and promote good health.?

Ingredients

Holistic dog food ingredients should be human grade whole grain brown rice, chicken meal, peas, oats, seaweed, vitamins and minerals. It?s a healthy combination that is good for your dog.? Only the highest quality, human-grade ingredients can earn the name ‘holistic’. Why Raw Meat Should Be Used in the Best All Natural Dog Foods and Homemade Dog Food Recipe

Sunday, February 8th, 2009
Sherrie Chastain asked:

Dogs have not changed very much in the past couple of hundred years. It is their surroundings and environment that has changed the most, especially their dog foods. All natural dog foods a hundred years ago were the raw kitchen scraps and any table scraps that were left over. Many dogs also hunted their own food.

Wild Dogs and Why Raw Meats are Best for All Natural Dog Foods

Does your dog walk in circles to pack down the tall grass before sleeping even if there is no grass?

Have you noticed your dog’s sharp pointy teeth used for ripping meat? A dog’s neck muscles are still their strongest muscle for ripping and tearing the meat off their prey. Your dog will also eat his food as quickly as he can and protect it from other animals even if there are none.

Your dog’s sense of smell is 1000 times more powerful than a human’s sense of smell, which enables them to hunt.

Your dog’s digestive system has not changed since the wild; it is designed for high protein, fat and moisture meals. Your dogs jaws only go up and down to tear meat or swallow it whole, hence the saying “wolf your food down”, they do not move sideways like cows or horses that grind vegetation.

Warmth and Moisture in Your Homemade Dog Food Recipe for the Best All Natural Dog Foods

If you feed raw meat with normal fat content and hot purified water to make it moist and make it warm (since cold food shuts down the digestive system), you will be giving your dog the same all natural dog foods dogs have eaten since the beginning of time.

Meat should be fed raw because it also helps to stimulate the carnivore’s highly acidic digestive system.

Bones should only be included if they are raw and fresh. Old or cooked bones become brittle and will splinter easily while fresh bones are still pliable.

Do you know of any animals that cook their food before they eat it?

All Natural Dog Foods Dogs Have Eaten for Centuries are Your Best Choice for Dog Foods

Since humans changed the way dogs have eaten since the beginning of time, dogs now get the same diseases humans have. The same diseases humans began to get after they began to eat so much processed food.

Coincidence? I think not. Remember Nobel prize winner Otto Warburg discovered in people that all disease ties back to a mineral deficiency. If we are getting sick because we began to eat processed foods that are nutrient and mineral deficient does it seem so odd that our pets are suffering from the same processed foods?

This alone should be enough to make us question the high grain content commercial dog foods available today and at least look for high quality all natural dog foods or use a good homemade dog food recipe so you will know exactly what is going into your dog. Your dog will Love you for it.

What is the best dog food to feed my baby male Yorkie?

Saturday, February 7th, 2009
just the one asked:

I am going to pick up my Yorkie for the first time on Friday. I can’t wait to get him home, but I am also concerned on what type of food to give him. I want my puppy to be healthy and happy but I want hime to also find his food tasty..and not nasty like most healthy dog foods. The breeder I bought him from has been feeding him Beniful. But he dosen’t particularly like it. Any suggestions on a healthy tasty dog food for puppys?
What does your puppy eat and enjoy?

P.S. I also want to give him treats, I figured I would give him fruitloops as a special treat since yorkies are prone to low-blood sugar….is this a good idea? or should i find something else for him?

Any other information on how to keep my puppy healthy and happy is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Oh yeah I am 15 and getting him for my birthday!

Use These Simple Guidelines to Choose the Best All Natural Dog Foods

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009
Sherrie Chastain asked:

Because dog foods are bought by people, dog food suppliers market to the ideas dog owners have about their dogs likes. This explains why dog foods come in different shapes and colors, with or without gravy, dry or moist, etc. Dogs do not need any of these things for the best all natural dog foods. Isn’t it interesting that pet owners spend around $13 billion annually for pet food which the majority of these dog foods are not all natural dog foods that give your dog optimum health.

Consumers Digest reported several years ago, “Few foods are so liberally laced with artificial flavors as pet foods” they also quoted sources that basically said that the only way they can get pets to eat the poor quality food is by adding phony flavors.

Would you choose artificial, poor quality for ingredients in your dog foods or would you rather choose dog foods that are all natural dog foods for your dog?

A carnivore’s system is designed to eat raw meat, one animal at a time. Your dog should digest its meal and be eliminated before any putrefaction begins. A dog’s digestive system is highly acidic, or at least it should be. Only raw meat stimulates a highly acidic system that is designed to kill unfriendly bacteria.

Ingredients in the Best All Natural Dog Foods

You will find the best all natural dog foods consist of approximately 75% organic, all natural raw meat. This can consist of beef, whole chicken or turkey wings, necks and backs as long as they are raw and fresh. When bones are old or cooked they become brittle and splinter.

The best all natural dog foods are also around 25% vegetables. This does not mean give your dog a whole, raw carrot. In the wild your dog would get these vegetable requirements from the predigested vegetables in the animal’s stomach and intestines. You can add organic vegetables to your all natural dog foods by grating them, chopping finely (like what you would find in a rabbit’s stomach) or run through a blender, food chopper or food processor.

In the wild a dog would get the water they needed from their prey, so the all natural dog foods you give your dog should be the consistency of a thick stew. The moisture content of dog foods also has an effect on maintaining healthy kidneys and bladder in your dog. Many pet owners report their dog cutting down on water consumption when being fed these types of all natural dog foods.

Most of the minerals must come in the form of supplementation today. Calcium is very important in the best all natural dog foods. Bone meal is not an acceptable source of calcium for your all natural dog foods because bones store toxins and heavy metals like lead or even mad cow disease. The other reason is the calcium to phosphorous ratio. Pets need a 2:1 ratio between calcium and phosphorus. That is, for every 2 parts of calcium in the food, there should be 1 part phosphorus. As an example, if the food contains 2 grams of calcium, the food should contain 1 gram of phosphorus. Meat is naturally low in calcium and high in phosphorus. Bone meal is not only a source of calcium, but bone meal is also a source of phosphorus, so using bone meal reverses the 2:1 ratio so that perhaps your dog’s body has a 1:3 ratio or 1 part calcium to 3 parts phosphorus. This imbalance could cause your dog health problems.

Finely ground raw egg shells are the best choice for calcium supplementation in the best all natural dog foods. They contain virtually no phosphorus and are extremely high in calcium plus they are affordable and lightweight. The best all natural dog foods will use approximately 1 tsp. finely ground raw egg shells or about 8 large eggs for every pound of meat. Raw eggs are an excellent source of meat and affordable.

Digestive enzyme supplementation are also a good ingredient in the best all natural dog foods. The four most commonly used enzymes in the best all natural dog foods are amylase that helps with the digestion of carbohydrates, protease which helps with the digestion of protein, lipase that helps with the digestion of fats and cellulase for the digestion of vegetables.

Nutritive herbs provide a blend of vital nutrients that are essential in the best all natural dog foods. Alfalfa which is an Arabic word meaning “mother of all foods, dandelion leaf, nettle, and kelp are ingredients in the best all natural dog foods. These herbs can be found in various green food powder supplements from health food stores.

The combination of these herbs in the best all natural dog foods provide such nutrients as biotin, bioflavanoids, calcium, magnesium, folic acid, iodine, iron, potassium, linolenic acid, niacin, potash, sulfur, zinc, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E. These herbs also aid in the assimilation of protein, fats and carbohydrates plus are an excellent blood purifier. They also aid the body to help detoxify the liver, clean the colon and keep the thyroid working.

Using these simple guidelines you can choose which are the best all natural dog foods to buy or how to make the best all natural dog foods available so your dog can enjoy optimum health.

dog food ?

Monday, February 2nd, 2009
mazdachick5811 asked:

ok im just doing some research on dog food. I found one that my dog loves, however it’s going to be about $70.00 a month. (royal canin for boxers) then i found one at the grocery store and it seems to have VERY simular ingredients except for that the first ingregient was Chicken in the grocery store brand and chicken wasnt even found till the 8th ingredient on the expesive brand.
My real q is….what is “meal” like it’ll say chicken meal, fish meal. However the grocery store brand states CHICKEN for the first ingredient which to me is good.
I also compared the crude %’s and they’re very simular only off by a few.
Im prety sure rice is good for a dogs diet correct? and corn meal not so good? Because a lot of dog foods do have a lot of corn meal in the foods.
The brand that i found at the grocery store is PC Nutrition 1st…this may only be in canada.
sorry everyone i posted this under the wrong heading by mistake and i dont know how to change it
